Dead On Arrival 2

Keeping it lively.

Zombie shooters are no new thing on the mobile platforms, but N3V Games has offered up an interesting, arcade-style approach with Dead On Arrival 2. In this new game, you take down zombies from a top-down, 360-degree perspective, using one virtual stick to move direction, and the other to fire. Along the way you can purchase a number of weapons and accessories to keep your run going - and you'll need all the help you can get when you're dealing with the fiercest enemies in the game.

The Good

Dead On Arrival 2 reminds us of classic twin-stick shooters like Smash TV and Robotron 2084 - never a bad thing. The game's incredibly good fun, and taking on tougher enemies certainly poses a challenge. The new weapons - rocket launchers, freeze-rays and the like - also go a long way to keeping things fresh. Much of this free-to-play content can be enjoyed with spending a dime too - it'll be a while before you feel the need to bust open your wallet.

Despite some framerate issues, the game also boasts some quality visuals, although only the most recent iOS models are supported (check the app store listings for your own device's compatibility with Dead On Arrival 2).

The Bad

There are times when the controls can become sluggish and inaccurate. As a result, you'll either waste precious ammunition, or accidentally get hit by enemies. While the graphics are undoubtedly impressive, there are times when they slow down considerably - particularly in online multiplayer sessions. Here's hoping these issues can be fixed with a patch.

The Verdict

Though its gameplay and presentation could use a little tweaking, Dead On Arrival 2 really isn't half bad at all. If you're a fan of zombie killing mayhem, you've no excuse for not giving it a go.
