Prisma Games' Evolution Highway is the latest Jetpack Joyride wannabe, an endless runner that puts you in control of a caveman/woman as they run through obstacle-laden worlds, collecting coins and power-ups along the way in order to prolong their epic trek. Controls are simple - swipe up to jump, swipe down to land quickly or pounce on one of the game's enemies.
Prisma has done a pretty good job overall with Evolution Highway. The controls are responsive and the gameplay includes a fair amount of challenges, from gathering extra coins, to picking up letters to spell out a big old 'BONUS'. The graphics are easy on the eye too, from your start in the Stone Age and then right through the ages. This free-to-play game has a pretty light freemium touch too - you can buy power-ups if you wish, but you can play the game perfectly well without spending a cent.
While the idea of playing as either a male or a female is cool, there's nothing to distinguish the two in gameplay terms. It's not exactly original stuff either, although it is enjoyable if you don't mind treading a bit of old ground. Finally, the character voices become annoying after a while, with the kind of repetitive utterances that will have you reaching for the volume switch pretty quickly.
Given the safe ground it treads, Evolution Highway isn't exactly a game that lives up to its name, but as far as endless running goes, you could certainly do a lot worse.
