EA to Make Presence Known in Mobile Gaming
EA is hitting cell phone gaming in a big way, with 15-20 titles planned this year...
At the ongoing Game Developers Conference, Electronic Arts Mobile GM, John Batter announced that EA plans to become a dedicated developer of mobile games in the coming months. Their games furthest along in development include several popular franchises such as Tiger Woods Golf, Need for Speed, Madden, and FIFA soccer.
Batter emphasized EA's mobile division (consisting of over 30 programmers and developers) will be fully dedicated in developing cell phone and other mobile games, and hopes to release 15-20 games by the end of 2005. Some concern has been raised, however, on whether or not EA's brand recognition and muscle will hurt smaller mobile game dev houses.
Batter went on to say he believes the mobile gaming market is set to grow in terms of technology and popularity in the United States and elsewhere. Modojo will have more on EA's foray into the mobile market, as well as the Game Developers Conference as news becomes available.
