Hot Wheels World's Best Driver
From best to worst.
Hot Wheels World's Best Driver is a racing game that capitalizes on the popular toy brand of the same name. It features a variety of two and four-wheel courses spread across a campaign of events, from time-based challenges to elimination races, to stunt runs. Over the course of the game, you'll earn new medals and unlock courses across a range of different racing categories.
Hot Wheels: World's Best Driver does offer a lot of vehicle diversity, from monster trucks to motorbikes, and some of the courses are lavishly designed, like you'd expect to find in an arcade racer. Also, the in-game hub is kind of interesting, requiring you to drive to selections, rather than choosing them outright from a menu. It makes the game feel like more of a world to explore.
Pretty much everything else, sadly. World's Best Driver's biggest offense though is its handling, which is loose and sloppy. Trying to perform any kind of stunt or successful drift is a challenge in itself, resulting in sudden collisions, crashes and disparaging last-place finishes. Considering the game requires you to collect medals to unlock additional content, this gets frustrating very quickly.
Furthermore, the graphics, while good at first, stutter at times, which can further throw off your performance - and the audio's very weak too. Finally, even with all of its single player content, there's no sign of multiplayer action.
While inspired in its design, this Hot Wheels racer is fundamentally flawed in its execution, and it's really not fun to play at all. Leave this in the garage and play with the original toy cars instead.
