Will this game give your cell phone nightmares?
A few years back, Activision released a horror/action themed game for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 called Nightmare Creatures, allowing you to take on all sorts of unspeakable creatures with a sword and other weapons through 1850's Prague. The game was alright, but unfortunately didn't sell that well. It didn't help that it was followed up by a lame duck of a sequel, Nightmare Creatures 2, either. Now, fortunately, the series lives on with a decent hack-n-slash side scrolling effort for your mobile phone.
The game follows a similar plotline to the original games. Jack and his wife have taken up some sort of experiment in the middle of Prague that makes them have some kind of nightmarish visions. Now, years later, they find that these visions have somewhat taken to the real world, and it's up to him to work his way through the game and destroy these nightmare creatures. Simple stuff, really.
The game is your typical slashing effort, but it plays well and that works for a game of this nature. It's not a concentrated thing, just simply laid out with run-of-the-mill moves. But it feels good, and the ability to use extra items like explosives and bullets comes in handy, especially on some of the tougher enemies in the game. The graphics look nice and haunted enough, and the sound, while not terrible, doesn't seem to explode too much with effects. Still, it somewhat works.
Nightmare Creatures is not what I consider a stellar game, as it lacks complexity and diversity to really set it apart from, say, Castlevania or what-not. But it could've been worse, and it's a nice time waster when all you want to do is pound upon the undead and the nastiest of hellish demons. Give it a try.
What's Hot: Plays verl well
What's Not: Lacks in complexity, straightforward
