Don't Step The White Tile Cheats And Tips
Get to steppin' with these game-saving tips.
Ayumu Kinoshita's Don't Step the White Tile is a curious beast, a puzzle game that requires you to make as many quick steps as you can across three different modes. However, there's a catch. You can only step on black tiles on the board, and if you step on any white ones, a huge shoe-eating shark pops out of the water to finish your run.
Need help getting a step ahead? Here are some pointers.
How do you play Don't Step the White Tile?
You receive a series of tiles - most of them white, with one black one randomly appearing in each row - and you need to step these odd ones in the quickest time possible. It's a little difficult at first, but you'll soon get the hang of how the game works and try to speed up your runs. Just don't step on the white tiles!
How can I speed up my run in Don't Step the White Tile?
The screen is laid out so you can see where the adjacent black tiles are going to be on the board. Try to set up your rhythm so that you continuously hit these squares as they come down. It's a hand-eye coordination exercise that takes some getting used to, but it'll soon become second nature. Don't worry about making a mistake - it doesn't cost anything to start another run.
How does Time Attack mode work in Don't Step the White Tile?
Time Attack measures how quickly you can complete 50 steps in a row. You'll start on a yellow grid and try to get through the tiles as quickly as you can before coming across the second yellow grid. If you make a mistake anywhere in between, your run is over and you'll have to go back to the beginning.
How does Long Run mode work in Don't Step the White Tile?
Long Step measures how far you can go in approximately 11 seconds' time. If you manage to make it to 50 steps within this time frame, your time will extend an additional 10 seconds, and you can keep going. This will take a bit of practice, but we managed to get it the third time around, without that pesky shoe-eating shark getting in the way.
How does Sudden Stop mode work in Don't Step the White Tile?
Sudden Stop mode asks you to get as far as you can within a 10 second time frame, but there's a catch. After the clock counts down to five seconds, it'll vanish from the screen, but prod you to keep going. Your job is to stop right when the clock hits zero - which you won't be able to see. Try to get in as many steps as you can while counting down from five, and when you get to one, slow down a bit. When you see the shark appear and yell, "STOP!", don't take any more steps. Otherwise, you'll need to restart.
Are there any unlockable items in Don't Step the White Tile?
Yes, you can unlock additional shoe sets, including moccasins and ladies' shoes, by completing tasks in the game, like having a run of over 50, 75 and 100 steps in Time Attack mode. These don't change the gameplay much, but they do offer a small bit of diversity when it comes to putting your feet in the right place.
Isn't it supposed to be called Don't Step ON the White Tile?
Yes, but it's translated from Japanese, and it's a fun game to play, so we won't knock the title that much.
