Pac-Man + classic puzzle concept= good time without dots.
Sometimes you just have to follow a simple, easy format to succeed. That's what Namco does with their latest Pac-Man-based game for the cell phone circuit, Pac-Match!. This game couldn't really get any easier, but you can't help but get addicted to it anyway because of its relative nature of "pick up and play". You know, kinda like the original.
Pac-Match! takes a variation on the old Bejeweled and allows you to match up similar symbols together to eliminate them from the screen, causing others to fall down in their place. The difference? Pac-shapes, such as ghosts and little Pac-Men that face each other. The game doesn't tackle difficulty like the earlier puzzle game Pac-Attack does, nor does it need to.
The game looks fine, and the sound isn't anything elaborate. What we have here is a by-the-basics good time. It's a shame we don't have a high score board to really match up with other players, nor any new shapes that enter the picture with so many levels, but the game remains true to itself and I guess that's good enough. If dot-munching with the arcade original has you beat, match up with this game.
What's Hot: Surprisingly, a great deal of fun.
What's Not: Not the most original concept in the world.
