Metal Slug Defense Cheats And Tips

Much different from your average shoot-em-up.

For years, we've come to recognize the Metal Slug series as a Contra-esque side-scrolling shooter. With Metal Slug Defense, however, SNK tried something different. You now assign groups of soldiers and units to attack enemy strongholds and troops while occasionally collecting medals to upgrade said units, making them stronger in the process. For more Tips on how to Unlock P.O.W.s in Metal Slug Defense visit our How To Unlock P.O.W.s guide.

Since it's different from any Metal Slug experience, it could take time getting used to. Not to worry, as we have some tips that'll have you dominating the battlefield in no time.

How do I play Metal Slug Defense?

It's a matter of assignment. You'll have various units that you can send onto the battlefield once you meet the required AP points that stack up over the course of each round. It's up to you to decide which units go out, but for starters, the basic soldier is very good, and the strong axe men are vital when it comes to shutting down an enemy generator, usually located at the end of each stage. Don't forget about the backpack-carrying people in the lower left corner, either - tapping them will generate more medals.

In-between rounds, you'll be able to use medals to upgrade your offensive and defensive tools so you're ready for each round that comes your way. You can unlock new soldier types, as well as weapons that prove rather useful against tough opposition.

How do I attack enemies in Metal Slug Defense?

Your soldiers automatically attack with their most basic weapon, like the regular soldier's knife. However, once they light up in blue flames, you can tap them for a stronger secondary technique, such as grenades or machine guns. Keep an eye out for these indicators when they appear.

On top of that, if you get enough good attacks in a round, you'll have access to a Metal Slug, which rampages through the stage and runs over everyone in its path. It's a one-time use sort of thing, but it's awesome when it comes to turning the tide in your favor.

What are the best things to upgrade in Metal Slug Defense?

Getting new soldiers is always nice, and they provide plenty of options for your plan of attack. What you'll want to do first, though, is upgrade your AP generator. This speeds up the number of points given to you, making it easier to assign soldiers, collect medals and win.

Make sure you upgrade your troops and base as well. Spread the medals around as much as you can to assure that everything's balanced. Otherwise, enemies will run right over you, and your game will be over.

How do I rescue P.O.W.s in Metal Slug Defense?

Rescuing P.O.W.s is a great way to earn extra medals and other bonuses for use in your camp. When a stage begins, send out a couple of the same soldier type to unlock P.O.W.s. They're usually hidden throughout the level and you have to unlock them by quickly beating the mission or deploying a specific unit type.

How do I play ranked matches in Metal Slug Defense?

Once you're ready to take on ranked matches - which are much more challenging than the usual single player missions - you'll find the option in your menu to take them on. Make sure your troops and base are ready to go, though, because you're in for a difficult fight.

Win, and you'll earn free medals to add to your collection, which you can use for upgrades. Check out our guide for getting medals within the game.

Do I need to pay for anything in Metal Slug Defense?

This is a free-to-play experience, with a number of earnable medals to go around and plenty of sessions to take part in. However, if you're hardcore and want to boost your army, you can pay for additional medals ranging anywhere from $0.99 for 30 to $99.99 for 3,900. See what the initial game offers first, then decide on whether to make an investment.
