dEXTRIS Cheats And Tips
Get into the grind with some quick moves.
What sounds like a variation on the classic game Tetris is anything but. In Chaotic Box's dEXTRIS, you control two independent square pieces as they avoid perilous objects that come their way up a grid. You'll either have to keep them together or separate them in order to keep the current run going - which is easier said than done, since it speeds up with each round.
Not to worry, as we have some tips that will keep you alive, even if it is a grind.
How do I play dEXTRIS?
You control the blue and purple pieces that appear on the board in three ways. You either hold down your left thumb to direct them to the left, the right thumb to move them to the right or hold them both down to separate them, which you'll need to do when large metal diamonds appear in the middle of the screen.
It can be tricky to learn at first, but after dodging the first few spikes that come down the screen, you'll understand how the game works, and you'll get into its rhythm and soon start dodging them in succession.
With each 10 objects you clear, you'll score a quick breather as you pass through a finish line of sorts, but then have to move on to the next 10. Watch your step!
What's the best way to dodge spikes in dEXTRIS?
Your best bet is to keep an eye near the top of the screen. You'll see large spikes come down, either pointing to the left, the right or directly at the center. By seeing where they end up, you can react accordingly and use your thumbs to keep the pieces out of harm's way.
Try to keep an eye on what successive pieces come next and prepare accordingly. However, before you move on to dodge the next one, make absolutely sure that you're clear of the spikes. We've run into a few by mistake because we thought we achieved safe passage, only to watch one of our cubes explode. Learn to pass with ease, then prepare for the next obstacle.
What's the best way to avoid diamonds in dEXTRIS?
Diamonds vary in size, either big or small. With the small ones, you can dodge on either the left or right hand side. However, the bigger ones will require you to split up so you can get around them. Otherwise, your run will be over.
Honestly, the best practice you can learn with dodging diamonds is to split every time. You'll dodge both big and small ones successfully, and not have to question their size as they start coming down. Get into the practice of splitting and you'll do just fine in terms of survival.
Can I compete with friends in dEXTRIS?
The game doesn't have direct multiplayer, but it does gauge high scores through leaderboards. If you have friends that play right alongside you, being able to tally up high scores and see where you stand is completely possible. We thoroughly recommend it, especially if you have fellow players.
Do I need to pay for anything in dEXTRIS?
Nope, the game is free to play - and a great test for your reaction skills. Definitely give it a try!
