Castlestorm: Free To Siege Cheats and Tips
It's time to get medieval on your opponents.
Console owners have enjoyed Zen Studios' Castlestorm: Free To Siege for several months now, and it's time for mobile owners to get a turn with a special free-to-play version called Free To Siege. The basics remain the same - storm castles while defending your own using an array of tools - but with touchscreen controls and various elements to buy, it feels like a fresh experience.
If you're worried about storming the castle, don't be! These tips will put you on the right track to royal glory.
How do I play Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
It's divided into segments. When it comes to defending your castle, you'll switch between using your ballista to fire shots, which range from typical arrows to more special ammunition that can do damage to their castle, and assigning soldiers to defend on the ground, including knights and archers.
In between rounds of defending your castle, you'll have a chance to strike your enemies. This requires a bit of strategy, as you'll need to chip away at it, either by going in from the top with a barrage of sheep (they're deadlier than you realize) or trying your luck with more powerful shots on the bottom. Once destroyed, you'll move on to the next round.
When it comes to destroying castles, both of these methods work well, but try to assign a few ground troops as well. They can keep defenses off your back so your ballista can do hard-hitting damage.
How do boosters work in Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
Boosters are time-based weapons that can clear the playing field for you, whether you call upon a tornado to wipe out ground forces or a meteor shower to deal damage to the enemies collectively. You'll get a free one-time use out of each one, but after that, you'll need to pay for more using gems that you collected. If you run short, you can always buy more. We'll cover that later.
How do I build new defenses for my castle and soldiers in Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
In-between levels, you'll have the chance to build new defenses for your castle and upgrade your ballista using coins that you earned over the course of the game. You can buy more as well if you choose to. There are a variety of tools available, but make sure your ballista is taken care of first, as it's your main line of defense. If it goes out of whack, you're out of luck.
As for the soldiers, you can rank up and give them new skills on the battlefield. In addition, you can also level up your star players - like knights that you control on occasion to clear the front lines - to have new abilities, including a charging uppercut and powerful magic spells. You'll need to use gems to open up slots and special powers for them, but devoted players will think these are worth it.
Other characters can be unlocked as well, so keep playing and you'll eventually earn enough to play as them. If you prefer, you can pay a few bucks and get them that way.
How do you shoot the ballista in Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
You tap the screen where you want the arrows to go and away they fly. You can also switch between ammunition types, in case you want to add some power behind your shots.
If you can, try to score headshots on the soldiers. This can be tricky given their distance, but once you learn the basics of firing, you can nail them with ease. Make sure you unload powerful ammo into the tougher soldiers as well - otherwise, they won't fall as easily, and you could have a problem with them killing your soldiers.
How do I earn three stars in each stage in Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
You're given a list of three objectives to complete over the course of each stage, usually revolving around completely obliterating someone's castle or finishing with a special weapon. Some can take a bit more practice than others, but the stars are worth it, as they open up bonus challenges where you can earn extra stars, as well as gold and gems. Keep at it.
Do I need to pay for anything in Castlestorm: Free To Siege?
If you want to become powerful enough, you'll want to plunk down some extra money for gems and gold. The purchases can vary anywhere from $4.99 to $49.99, depending on how many you need.
We have some advice. If you need to purchase anything, go with the VIP package. This provides you with a few ample rewards per week for the same price, including various coins, gems and other goods. It's the best way to go if you prefer to spend.
One more thing - don't pay $1.99 to remove ads. Any purchase you make in the game will take them out automatically anyway.
