Why You Should Get Excited for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
Are you excited for the impending release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? If you're not, you certainly should be! Aside from the fact that these games are full-fledged remakes of one of the most important generations of Pokémon, they're built from the same engine that spawned Pokémon X and Y, two of the most truly "next-gen" experiences to come from the franchise. If you need a reason to get hyped for them, here are five!
1. Getting caught up on Pokémon
For many players, Ruby and Sapphire marked a generation where they just didn't have the time to explore or take on a new journey at the time. For some reason, it appears that this generation of Pokémon titles were overlooked. What's more, genuine Ruby and Sapphire cartridges are more difficult to come by these days and handheld owners who have migrated to the 3DS don't have cartridge slots with which to play anyway. Moving to 3DS not only makes sense, but it allows a new generation to experience the games, and that's reason in itself to be excited.
2. New Mega Evolutions
Pokémon X and Y may have started the craze, but Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are perpetuating the trend with a brand new gaggle of Mega Evolutions like Sceptile, Swampert, and Blaziken. There are even some Megas that really surprise you, and part of the fun is uncovering which monsters have a brand new form. Technically they count as new discoveries and it's fun to discern which one of your favorite fighters can still evolve after their ultimate form.
3. Customization of your own dwelling
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, if they follow in the fotosteps of the original games, will feature secret bases that players can use to decorate with their own items, like furniture, pictures, and other things found throughout the game world. You can have your very own dwelling inside the world and make it yours, instead of having to deal with the generic "starter" house at the beginning of the game, making it truly feel like it's a dwelling that you've had a hand in raising.
4. You can catch all of the Pokémon with only Omega Ruby and Sapphire and Pokémon X and Y
Game producers Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori have explained that you could very well catch all of the Pokémon in the series using both sets of games with the new Soar ability, which will allow you to find Pokémon you wouldn't normally be able to get to. This is a very exciting prospect, as those who are likely purchasing the two new remakes will probably already own one or both of X and Y, so a complete Pokédex isn't going to be nearly as difficult as it has been over the years. That's something to get excited about for sure.
5. It's Pokémon!
We used to clamor that we went far too long between Pokémon titles, and now that we're getting our wish with games that release far more often, fans still find a reason to complain when we should absolutely be focusing on reasons to be excited about the upcoming games and what they'll bring to the table. And if getting excited about more Pokémon, no matter the form, is wrong, we definitely don't want to be right.
