Five Great Free Android Titles
In the market for something new to try? Pick these games up!
There are plenty of titles out there on the Google Play store that are practically begging you to pick them up, but how do you know which are actually worth your time? Just because they're free, that doesn't automatically absolve them of sins, right? We've gathered together five picks that'll steer you right every time. There's a bit of a lull right now that's going to be perfect for you to kick back and relax with a new title with -- why not choose one of the games below?
Dungeon Hunter 4
Gameloft's polished action-RPG hybrid is a full-featured Diablo-style dungeon crawler that puts you in the shoes of one of four heroes given the power to deliver the kingdom of Valenthia, where you complete missions to vanquish the evil that's befallen the once-proud landscape. Intense cooperative missions and an engaging PvP system are a boon for players looking to take the show on the road beyond single-player, and if that's all you're interested in, know that the game is a clear return to the series' roots. Get your dungeon on! Don't be afraid.
Ingress
Slide an augmented reality game (ARG) into your mobile app arsenal with Ingress, a title based on a deceptively simple concept that demonstrates the awesome power of a "real-life" MMO. Ingress asks you to venture out into your city and see real-world sights while "hacking" the spots in real life to earn keys and other points. Along the way, you also communicate with real people who are role-playing across your city. You don't know them, and they don't know you. But you'll work together toward a common goal, and that's part of the fun.
Real Racing 3
Racers are a no-brainer when it comes to mobile platforms, and Real Racing 3 is about as close as you can get to titles like Gran Turismo and Forza on your pocket-sized device, with licensed cars and tracks that take you on a no-holds-barred thrill ride through real-world locations. While it does rely heavily on in-app purchases and additional unlocks, if you feel the need for speed, you can satisfy it here.
Voxel Rush
If the phrases "endless runner" and "minimalist" strike your fancy, you'll find plenty to love about Voxel Rush, which crushes convention and forces you into an environment where visuals don't matter so much as the flow of the game and keeping yourself out of some grisly crashes. Zoom along at a breakneck pace and collect power-ups along the way to keep up the momentum -- one false move, however, and you'll find yourself back at the start. The accelerometer controls don't exactly make things simple for you, but once you get a good rhythm going, it'll be like you were born to play this game.
Kim Kardashian: Hollywood
We've all had dreams of super-stardom, short-lived or not. That's why Kim Kardashian: Hollywood scratches a very primal itch that needs attention every now and then. Work your way to the top as Kim's "protege" and then schmooze with who's who in Hollywood. Kim Kardashian and Glu Mobile's collaboration is all the glitz and glamour of Hollyweird, but it all comes with a price if you want to advance quickly -- some quick thinking on your part, and strategizing as to who you're going to hang out with and who you're going to flub. It's just like real life in that way, but make no mistake that this effort from Glu Mobile is polished and enjoyable, even if you vehemently refuse to pay additional money for the abundance of in-game purchases. You really don't need that dress in three extra colors, after all.
